Education is the great equalizer

I believe education is the great equalizer.  Throughout my childhood, I attended public schools and I was fortunate to build a solid foundation, with education as a basis, which has enabled me to have a successful career and opportunities I never imagined.  I am running for Sacramento City Unified School District School Board because I want to ensure that this generation and future generations have the same kind of opportunities.  I am committed to making our school system one that enables all students to create their own pathways to success.

I’ve always been passionate about what we can do to bring positive change to our communities and I will bring my energy, passion and skills as an advocate to my work on the School Board.  My years of experience working to protect and improve healthcare, mental health program and other vital public services have brought me to where I am today and make me uniquely qualified to help lead SCUSD into the future to improve student achievement.  I believe education should focus on the whole child and provide a well-rounded education with a strong curriculum as well as promoting health, nutrition, and a safe and secure learning environment.

In 1999 I was appointed to work for Governor Gray Davis in the Department of Industrial Relations.  During that time, I met many engaging, wonderful people.  It was a pivotal time in my life and every since then I have felt a deep commitment to our City.  I have been very fortunate in my lifetime and I am grateful to all of the people who have helped make me the person I am today:  my parents and family, teachers, friends and people throughout Sacramento.  I am committed to giving back to my community, which has given so much to me.

Over the next year as this election unfolds, I hope to meet you whether it is at a community meeting, sports field or just at the local coffee house.  I am proud to be a member of our City, and I would be proud to serve in such an important way, on the Sacramento City Unified School Board.
